Our workshops are one-off classes or events that are offered in our space. We offer workshops for all ability and skill levels. Our studio is currently 16+.
We have brand new Janome sewing machines you’re welcome to use in the space. Let us know if you plan to bring your own or if you will use ours so we can allocate accordingly.
Regular Workshops
First Stitches
Our First Stitches classes are beginner-friendly workshops designed to help you gain confidence with the sewing machine and the first steps of sewing. Bring your machine or borrow one of ours and we'll guide you through the essentials, including identifying key parts, winding a bobbin, threading the machine, troubleshooting common issues, and sewing basic stitches. You'll put your new skills into practice by creating a simple take-home project, leaving with a better understanding of your machine and the confidence to start sewing on your own.
Fitting Friday’s
Sewing a garment is one skill but fitting it beautifully is another! In this hands-on, two-hour workshop, you'll learn the essentials of garment fitting, including how to properly pin, mark, and alter clothing for a better fit. Through live demonstrations, we'll cover common adjustments such as taking in seams, raising shoulders, shortening sleeves, and hemming garments. Bring a piece from your own wardrobe and practice fitting techniques with guidance from the instructor and your fellow students.
First Industrial Stitches
Our First Industrial Stitches class is a 3-hour workshop designed to help you gain confidence using industrial sewing machines. In our open studio, you'll learn the basics of threading the machine and bobbin, troubleshooting, using the industrial serger and iron, and specialized presser feet. The first two hours are dedicated to instruction, followed by a one-hour free sew session to build proficiency. After completing First Industrial Stitches, you'll be eligible to purchase our day and weekly open studio passes.
First Serger Stitches
Ready to conquer your serger? Our beginner-friendly First Serger workshop will teach you the fundamentals of using and maintaining an overlock machine. Bring your own serger for personalized troubleshooting, or use one of our domestic machines in the studio. During this 2-hour class, you'll learn to thread your machine, understand the differences between 3-thread and 4-thread stitches, and practice on a variety of fabrics. You'll also have the opportunity to try our industrial serger.
