Studio Policies

Studio Policies

Machines are available on a first come, first serve basis. We will provide guidance on studio traffic times on a weekly basis.

Tools are available to borrow within the studio only. No studio tools are to be stored in private lockers or shelves, or taken home.

In the event of a broken machine, please let a staff member know as soon as possible either in person or through info@thenotch.co.

Work may not be stored on tables, left out on tables, or be stored on shelves that do not belong to the member. Work may be left overnight out on a dressform with permission.

Please no uncovered beverages or food near the sewing machines.

Tools in the studio are primarily for classes. Members are expected to bring their own supplies.

Black-out dates for events, studio closures, holidays will be posted well in advance and announced in the regular email newsletter.

Member Policies

Members are expected to be respectful of staff and other sewists, to share tables and equipment, and clean up after themselves.

Members are expected to be respectful of teachers and students in the space, and understand that these are busier times in the studio. Class times are posted in the studio and on the website.

Any theft, or disorderly conduct will result in fines and immediate dismissal from the studio. The Notch reserves the right to cancel any membership if the member is in violation of the studio rules.

Parking in the lot adjacent to the Notch premises is only offered to Pro Members with a parking pass. Other members may use the back parking lot for material and tool load-in only.

Members are responsible for changing broken needles with the provided needles in the studio.

The studio provides white pattern paper as included in the membership fees.

The hours are to be strictly adhered to. Any members found to be staying past their membership hours will have their membership terminated.

Class Policies

By booking our class you will be agreeing to our cancellation policy, which is:

With at least 24 hours notice before your class starts (your first class session) you may:

  • Reschedule your sessions for another month

  • Cancel for a refund.

After the 48 hour period, or if your class has started, we are unable to offer these two options.

Classes will run if a minimum of 5 people sign up. If the class you’ve registered for does not have enough people, you will be notified 48 hours before the class begins and have the option to join a different session or receive a refund.

If you need to reschedule or cancel, contact us here.  Classes are offered in 4 week blocks and we are not able to separate the individual sessions.

If you are unable to attend or miss a week, you can make it up by attending another regularly scheduled session within the same month. Contact us here to schedule a make-up class.

Fitting Room & Guest Policies

Fitting Rooms are available for use with our online booking. Fitting times are only available during Open Studio hours, as designated by the Notch.

Members are responsible to have the fitting room cleared and cleaned before the next reserved fitting.

No more than 2 hours should be booked at a time (exceptions can be made based on availability).

Fittings are for non-class times. Class times are posted in the studio and online at: Notch Class Scheduling.

No guests without permission at any time. Violation of this rule will result in a $200 fee. Please note that guests brought into the space strictly for use of the fitting rooms do not require a Guest Pass.
