Moriah & Goli - 2021
About Us
The Notch is the answer to the questions
“How can we support people who make clothes?”
and
“How do we make sewing and learning to sew accessible to everyone?”
Goli and Moriah met in 2019 where they both worked in a bridal tailoring shop. Moriah, a skilled seamstress and costumer, and Goli, a bridal designer and educator have collectively over 20 years of industry experience. Separately, we were both dreaming of a space where sewists of all levels would be supported and provided with the tools and guidance they need to succeed in an industry that many (mistakenly) thought was long gone. We knew that these skills have historically been passed through these community gathering spaces and we wanted to create that space in Chicago.
The Notch provides professional-grade studio space for sewists, tailors, makers and beyond, as well as classes of all levels for those with a desire to learn all things sewing. We are an analogue response to the digital fatigue of today and hope to allow makers and learners to intentionally connect and build skills. Whether you’re an alterations specialist, beginner sewist, or just want to join us for a weekend workshop, we can’t wait to welcome you to The Notch.
