Our studio

The Notch Studio is located in Chicago, at 4021 N. Elston ave in the charming neighborhood of Irving Park. Our building has been a fixture in the neighborhood for over 100 years, and we are so excited to bring something new to the area.

Our studio has professional grade equipment to suit any level of making, from casual tailoring to small batch production. We have:

• 6 industrial straight stitch machines (Juki, Brother, Singer’s)

• An industrial Singer overlock machine

• A vintage walking foot machine

• 2 domestic overlock machines (Singer and Elna)

• 30ft of cutting tables

• Hi-steam ironing tables and industrial gravity irons

• 6 domestic Janome sewing machines

• A variety of full (10, 20) and half body female dressforms (4, 12, 8), one 38 male dressform (plus arms!)

• Speciality sewing tools, feet and tricks of the trade

• 2 fitting rooms for client fit sessions

• High-speed Wifi

• Plenty of locker, shelf and rack storage space

• Experienced guidance and community!

Sewing can be a solitary craft, but we have found in our years of experience that it is the community and network that makes it beautiful. For a beginner sewer to work alongside a seasoned seamstress or an emerging designer is inspiring for all involved, and a whole lot less isolating.
